First Strike Controversial Game Conquers International AppStore Charts

Zurich based Blindflug Studios recent iOS release First Strike is, paradoxically for a game about nuclear war, hoping to help stop the real thing. Within its first six days of release, the game has achieved the top position in the official AppStore top charts in Switzerland, Portugal and Hong Kong. In Germany and Austria the game is currently No 2 and in numerous other territories including the United States and UK, the title easily entered the top 20. It has had glowing reviews from the specialist press and has scored an impressive rating of 4.5 stars in the AppStore. Developers donate 25% of revenues to NGOs, which support global disarmament of nuclear weapons.

The game has attracted widespread praise for the balance it has struck between excitement and addressing the moral issues of nuclear war. Blindflug Studios is taking that issue further  by undertaking  to donate 25% of First Strike net revenues to ICANW and Greencross, which are both organizations fighting for the global disarmament of nuclear weapons.

Commenting on their donation to ICANW and Greencross Blindflug’s Moritz Zumbühl said “We think gaming is a very powerful medium and we hope First Strike combines the big issues of the world with gaming, so people can participate in, and not just talk about, nuclear war."

You can see what happens if you launch a nuclear missile, or what the effects are when you hit London.  And while our first priority was to create an exciting and entertaining game, we hope it may provoke some thought about the morality of nuclear war.“

First Strike  is a fast paced real-time strategy game where players have to make life or death decisions in the blink of an eye.  The player is cast in the role of one of eleven nuclear powers with the goal of expanding into other countries, and the ability to build bombs or disassemble them in order to restructure their arsenal. There is also a research option so players can build bigger bombs, act more quickly, get better recon on the enemies’ actions and use automated self-defense-sequences. Developed for iOS and Android tablets the players can control the game with their fingertips. But it is essential to keep a steady hand as a small conflict can quickly escalate to a nuclear disaster.

First Strike was nominated in the category “Best Upcoming Game" by the International Mobile Game Awards (IMGA).

First Strike is available in the AppStore for $3.99 USD

Google Play store for $3.99 USD
